Sheila Mather lives near the charming coastal town of Sidney on Vancouver Island. Her light-filled studio overlooks the trees and oceans that inspire many of her paintings.
Sheila’s earlier days were spent in Vancouver running her own design and illustration company. The move to the Island on 2000 brought with it a slower pace of living and an opportunity to turn to painting full-time. For over 10 years she painted with pastels – loving the spontaneity and the intensity of colour of the medium. She attained Master Pastellist designation and won several prestigious awards for her work. Finding the fine dust from the pastel sticks becoming a problem, she began experimenting with different media. Her newer work includes paintings in oils and acrylics, and paintings on gold leaf. As her work evolves her sense of design shines through in all her paintings.
‘The work of being an artist never ends – its both a challenge and a passion, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.’
